Then the plot moves along, and in comes the white succubus devil, and she continues to stay in the scenery. The dialogue pretends to be incredibly deep, all full of imagery and symbolism. But it ends up going off the rails into some quasi supernatural story that pretends to be deep, and meaningful, and about blackness, and about forgiveness, and purpose and symbolism. This ends up as a big bucket of Tales From the Dark Side crap. One star for the actors. One star for the scenery. This is total pretentious crap, continued self-victimization of black Americans, contempt for white people, and attempts to pawn off its rubbish messaging using art speak. Sorry guys, it’s not poetry. Just bad dialogue.
The Dutchman, as it explores the trappings and fears of one man, one culture, and how it is passed down, wavers between impactful and what can feel like rambling.
